Where to find fall and winter travel bargains
Fall and winter is a great time to save money on
travel – except for the holiday period from mid-
November to mid-January. Crowds thin out, weather is generally nice and there are lots of deals on travel and accommodations. Fall also offers the benefit of colorful foliage in many parts of the United States.
Here are a few fall and winter travel destinations for 2011
Hawaii
Fall and winter travel to Hawaii is always popular. Fall offers lots of travel bargains to Hawaii. The weather is perfect in Hawaii during fall and winter, offering a well-earned respite from the cold if you live in the Northern US.
A fall vacation to Hawaii also offers the second annual Maui Pineapple Festival & Homecoming on September 22, which shows off Hawaii's famous pineapple, with live music and a themed lunch. Aloha festivals are also celebrated through October with lots of cultural events, music and festivities.
The Hawaii tourist board says that travelers can save up to 50 percent on airfare by traveling off-peak.
Mexico
Mexico has been hit hard with hurricanes in 2007, but they begin to taper off in September. Fall is a great time to go to Mexico as holiday crowds have not yet begun to descend. Mexican vacations offer good prices in the fall, plus beautiful weather.

Europe
As fall turns to winter, great deals can be found for European travel. However, the weather turns chilly very quickly. If you’d like to spend your days shopping or visiting museums, it can still be a great time to visit.
Germany offers bargain prices and, of course, Oktoberfest! Summer tourists are gone and fall is a good time to enjoy the true culture of Germany.
Another great fall destination in Europe is Tuscany. Tourists depart, olive and grape harvests begin and bargain vacation packages to Tuscany are plentiful.
Australia
Winter time in the US is spring time in Australia, making it popular winter travel destination. For people in the US, fall travel to Australia still offers great weather and fewer crowds than you will find in January. High airfares to Australia begin in January and don’t end until May.
