Gifts from Your Kitchen - Easy Holiday Cut Out Cookies

My mom use to make these cut out cookies every year and we had a cookie decorating party with our cousins. As we got children of our own, the holiday tradition of making cut out sugar cookies continued and now the cookie decorating party is made up of grandchildren too.

Start your own holiday tradition with this great cut out cookie recipe. Give them as a gift from your kitchen or serve them at a holiday party. It's easy and you'll have lots of holiday fun.

This holiday cookie recipe can be used for any holiday, not just Christmas. They make great gifts too.

Recipe for Holiday Cut Out Cookies

Ingredients

3 cubes margarine
2 eggs
1 c sugar
1 tsp vanilla
4 c flour

Beat together all ingredients except flour with a hand mixer.

Add flour slowly, blending well as you mix. You'll have to use a large spoon to mix
during the lattter part of the mixing.

Chill batter for about 2 hours.

Sprinkle flour on counter or board to roll out dough. Place dough on flour and sprinkle some on top
of dough ball. It's easier to split dough into 3 or 4 parts.

Roll out batter to about 1/3 inch thick and use cookie cutters to roll out. If the batter gets warm and becomes sticky, just return it to the frig for 15 minutes or so.

Lay cut outs onto ungreased baking pan and bake at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes.

Cool and decorate.

Frosting Recipe for Cut Out Cookies

Ingredients

1 stick butter or margarine, softened
1 lb bag of confectioners sugar
Just enough milk to make a frosting consistency. If you add too much milk and frosting is thin, just add more confectioners sugar.

Directions

Cream sugar and butter, then SLOWLY add milk, and continue beating.

Divide frosting into small dishes and add food coloring of desired colors.

Frost cookies and use colored sugar sprinkles or cake decortating tools to make the cookies as fancy as you wish. Let your creative side come out!

Patience is required when decorating with small children but it's well worth it for the memories!
