Holiday Candy Recipe - Crunchy Butter Toffee
One way to save a little money this holiday season is to make gifts for your family and friends. What better way to show your love than to make homemade candy for them? They will appreciate the time and effort you put in on this crunchy butter toffee, which is a perfect holiday treat.
To make a beautiful gift of this crunchy butter toffee, all you need is some colorful plastic wrap, some small holiday paper plates and bits of ribbon.
Make the toffee and let it cool. Put individual pieces on the holiday plate, set the plate in a circular piece of colored plastic wrap and tie with some holiday ribbon.
My mom used to make this terrific butter toffee recipe every Christmas. Maybe it will start a new family tradition for you too.
Ingredients
1/2 c margarine
1/2 c butter
1 1/3 c sugar
1 tbs white syrup
3 tbs water
1 c pecans chopped
12 oz bag chocolate chips
Directions for crunchy butter toffee
Melt butter and margarine in medium saucepan. Add sugar, white syrup and water.
Cook to hard crack, about 300 degrees, stir occasionally. Hard crack is achieved by dropping a few drops of candy into cold water. When the candy ball is hard, the candy is done.
Once butter toffee is cooked, add the nuts.
Spread butter toffee mixture into a well greased 9x13" pan or large cookie sheet with sides.
Allow it to cool.
Turn candy out onto waxed paper when it's stiff but before it's cold.
Melt chocolate and spread or drizzle over toffee.
Once the toffee is cold, break it into pieces and enjoy!
