You lead a busy, stressful life, tied to cell phones, computers and commuting, probably running your kids to sports practices, shopping for groceries and a myriad of other details of modern life. You decide you need a break! A wellness vacation can recharge your physical, mental and spiritual batteries but how do you decide on where to go and what sort of wellness vacation package you need?

First of all, you must think about what you want to achieve on your wellness vacation. What is your idea of relaxation? Do you want a wellness vacation that includes hiking and biking? Would you like to be close to a tourist destination so you can also go sight-seeing? Do you prefer therapeutic massages and facials? Would you like to lose weight or learn yoga? This vacation is all about you and what will renew your health and spirits.

If the entire family is going along on this wellness vacation, many spas and resorts have special provisions for entertaining the kids while you luxuriate in a mud bath.

Cost

Most people already have a general idea of what they can afford to spend on a vacation. The cost of a wellness vacation depends, in part of course, on how long you want your vacation to be and where you want to go. If you purchase a package, the cost of an additional week might not break your budget since your transportation will be the same amount whether you're going for one week or two.

Look for all-inclusive packages so your costs will be within your set budget.

Look for deals - Whatever time of year you want to go, it's off season someplace. You can save serious money on travel by going to tropical destinations in the summer or Europe in the winter, for instance. Off-season travel destinations in the US are often cheaper as well. Try a ski destination in the summer. Many resorts and retreats offer special deals in the off season just to fill their rooms.

If cost is really an issue for you, don't be discouraged and give up the idea of a wellness vacation entirely. Many retreats and spas offer weekend get-a-ways which are also refreshing and you can probably find such a place fairly close to home.

Location

Once you know what sort of wellness vacation you want and how much you can spend, investigate some options. Can you afford to go to a resort in the Caribbean? Perhaps you can drive to a location in your own state and spend two weeks being pampered and learning how to meditate. Which resorts offer the best hiking trails? If weight loss is your goal, which retreats offer sound nutritional programs?

Whatever sort of wellness vacation you are looking for, make sure your destination offers all the amenities you are looking for.

Relaxing on a warm, sandy beach or taking classes to bring out your creative spirit, can sustain you through the hectic busy days that follow. Perhaps you owe it to yourself and to your family to try a wellness vacation next time you travel.
