Easy Crockpot Apple Butter Recipe
This recipe for Crockpot Apple Butter is one easy
way to make apple butter. The crock pot, or slow
cooker, was invented in the 1970's to save
time for busy homemakers who were abandoning their traditional housewifely roles and entering into the work force. During the energy crisis of the 1970s, Americans were encouraged to conserve
electricity, and Crock-Pots operated at a very low wattage.
Because you can freeze this apple butter, you don't have to mess with canning to preserve it. This recipes makes a delicious gift too!
Ingredients
5 1/2 pounds cooking apples such as Braeburn, granny Smith or Jonagold
1 c water
4 c granulated sugar
2 to 3 tsp cinnaomn
1/4 tsp cloves
1/4 tsp salt
Recipe Directions
Peel and core apples and cut them into quarters.
Put apples and water into large stock pot and cook until tender.
Place cooked apples into a blender or food processor and puree until smooth.
Combine pureed apples, sugar, cinnamon, cloves and salt in a slow cooker. Cover and cook
on low for 6 to 8 hours. Stir occasionally and check for desired thickness and depth of color.
Spoon into freezer containers, cover and cool.
Refrigerate or freeze until you're ready to use it.
Makes 9 cups of apple butter. Crockpot Apple Butter is great served on your morning toast or your muffin with dinner.
