Healthy Summer Barbecue Marinade Recipes
Avoid store bought marinates which are often full of excess sugar and salt, along with unwanted chemicals and preservatives. Make your own quick and easy marinades for barbecue.
Do you want to know the secret to melt-in-your mouth tender barbecued meat? Use a marinade of one of the following, mixed with a little olive oil:
- A 7-up type drink. The carbonation helps to tenderize your meat.
Use enough of one of the above to cover the meat. Allow it to stand in refrigerator for one hour. Drain off excess liquid prior to barbecuing. This will also help your meat cook faster, while leaving it tender and moist.

Here's a few recipes using these ingredients to give you a healthy alternative to store-bought barbecue sauce.
Lemon Barbecue Marinade
Combine in a blender and blend for one minute:
- 1 teaspoon of dry mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon each of salt and pepper
- 1 teaspoon thyme, fresh or dried
- 1 teaspoon chopped rosemary
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce-choose low sodium if
you are concerned with salt intake
Here's some other options to add to the above barbecue recipe:
- 2 cloves of crushed garlic
- 1 teaspoon basil, fresh or dried
- If you'd like a little sweetening, add 2 Tablespoons of honey
- If you like it hot, add a dash of Tabasco or other hot pepper sauce
Combine all ingredients and marinade meat for one hour prior to barbecuing. Drain off marinade and disgard before cooking.
