Health & Wellness Vacations - Elegant Wine Spas
Luxurious Vinotherapy Spas offer the latest in Wellness Vacation

Sipping an elegant glass of fine wine is nutritious for the body and a refreshment for the soul. Beauty treatments at a luxury spa are also relaxing and rejuvenating. Now put the two together and you have a hot new trend in luxury spa experiences - the wine spa hotel using vinotherapy.

Actually consuming wine during treatments is discouraged (a nice glass at dinner later is approved, however) but who needs to sip the wine when you can take a long, luxurious soak in a bath of spring water and Pinot Noir or grape water? Or try a Merlot grape seed wrap or exfoliation with crushed cabernet scrub. Other available treatments include creams and oils made from wine, grape seeds or grapes.

This new industry based on beauty products and treatments incorporating wine, grapeseed oil and grapes is called vinotherapy.

Grapes and the wine made from them, plus grapeseed oil, have been studied for the powerful antioxidants they contain. Antioxidants are great for the heart and immune system and may even help prevent some cancers.

The world’s first vinotherapy hotel was opened, quite logically, in France. Mathilde and Bertrand Thomas used grapes harvested from their own Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte estate to create the Caudalie skin care line in 1995. In 1999, they opened the world’s first vinotherapy hotel, Les Sources de Caudalie on their estate in Bordeaux.

Wine spa hotels and luxurious vinotherapy resorts are appearing on wine estates around the world. Imagine a trip to the wine country where you not only drink the world’s best wine, you can have a Merlot facial as well.

The Kenwood Inn and Spa in the Sonoma, California wine country, is the United States’ leading vinotherapy wine spa and the first to feature Caudalie Vinotherapy. Try such elegant and luscious treatments as the wine barrel bath and red wine bath, both featuring crushed grape or wine extracts. Also on the menu are merlot wraps, crushed cabernet scrubs and the vino-lift anti-aging facial.

Other vinotherapy spas in the United States are the luxurious Inn at Camelback in Arizona and the Shore Club in Miami, both of which offer wine treatments using Olavie’s LeVin range of oils made from the Chardonnay grape seed.

In New York City, you’ll find the first entirely wine-therapy based spa, the Delluva Vinotherapy Day Spa, which opened in January, 2007. The Delluva features TheraVINE products made from the Pinotage grape of South Africa.

In Europe, besides Les Sources de Caudalie, is the Relais San Maurizio - Hotel del Monastery in the vineyards of Piedmont. This Caudalie vinotherapy spa in the restored 17th century monastery at Santo Stefano Belbo offers such treatments as the California grape massage and a Massage Sauvignon, plus anti-aging and rejuvenating facials and other wine therapies.

So, if you're looking for the ultimate in wellness vacations, make your next relaxing trip to a spa specializing in vinotherapy.
