Forget dieting. Permanent, healthy weight loss can only be achieved through lifestyle changes which include smaller portions, more nutritious choices and more exercise. Follow these tips and the weight will come off - and stay off.



Calories do count for weigh loss - Actually counting calories isn't necessary but if you cut your portions, you can lose weight. America is a "super size it" nation but the key to weight control is only eating what your body needs and no more.

Try this diet tip - count your calories for a few days to see where you're "spending" them. You may be eating more than you think.

Make healthy choices for healthy weight loss - Fruits and veggies are low cal, contain lots of vitamins and minerals, plus fiber to help you stay fuller, longer.

Make substitutions for weight loss -Save calories whenever possible by asking for the low-cal, fat-free version. Remember though, fat free isn't necessarily calorie free-there might be added sugar.

Add foods rich in Leucine to your diet. Leucine is an amino acid found in red meat, nuts, beans, milk and brown rice, among other foods. Studies have shown that adding 3,200 mg of leucine a day can double weight loss.

Have a sweet tooth? Sniff vanilla. The scent of vanilla releases seratonin in the brain and reduces sugary cravings.

Try this healthy weight loss habit. Use a smaller plate for your meals. If you use a large plate, you will tend to fill it up and once the food is on your plate, you were inclined to eat it all.

Try parking your car as far away from your office as you can or, better yet, if possible, walk to work or ride your bike. Take the stairs, not the elevator.

Get a dog and take it for a walk every day. Believe me, after you walk your dog one day, it will bug you daily and force you to get out and walk. Dogs make great walking companions and pets are also known to have a good effect on high blood pressure.

Remember, whatever you focus on grows in your life. Don't focus on weight loss, or being overweight, focus on how you will feel when you are at your ideal weight (ideal for you-not anyone else's idea of ideal weight). Picture yourself at that weight. Shop for the clothes you will wear when you get to that weight. Put a piece of tape over the scale readout that has your idea weight on it.





Tell yourself every day, "I am a beautiful person just the way I am." Having negative thoughts about yourself is very powerful. Even if, at first you don't believe it, keep repeating to yourself that you are beautiful, intelligent, energetic  and the perfect weight for you.

Concentrate all your thoughts on being at your idea weight and entertain no thoughts to the contrary. You can bring this picture of yourself into reality by holding it in your thoughts.
